Redis Hosting Explained
What Is Redis Hosting?
Redis is an in-memory data store known for very fast reads and writes. Apps use it to cache database queries and pages, store sessions, power leaderboards and rate limiters, and pass messages with Pub/Sub or Streams. Frameworks like Laravel, Django, Rails, and many WordPress caching plugins support it.
Because Redis keeps data in memory, hosting it well means having dedicated RAM, setting a memory limit and eviction policy, choosing how often to save data to disk, and keeping it off the public internet. Valkey, the open source fork of Redis, works the same way.
Redis runs as its own service, so it belongs on a VPS, where you have root access and RAM that isn't shared with other customers.
Why Choose HostPapa
A Reliable Home for Your Redis Instance
Redis is only as fast as the memory behind it. HostPapa VPS plans give it dedicated RAM, NVMe storage for persistence, full control of the server, and support around the clock.

How to Set Up Redis on a HostPapa VPS
A secure, reliable Redis setup takes six steps. Getting memory limits and network access right matters most.
Step 1: Install Redis. Connect over SSH and install Redis from your distribution's packages or the official Redis repository, then enable the service so it starts on boot.
Step 2: Keep it private. Leave Redis bound to 127.0.0.1 with protected mode on if your app runs on the same server. Never expose port 6379 to the public internet.
Step 3: Require authentication. Create users with ACLs, or at minimum set a strong requirepass, so every client must log in.
Step 4: Set a memory limit. Set maxmemory to leave room for the operating system and your app, and choose an eviction policy. allkeys-lru is a common choice for a pure cache.
Step 5: Choose persistence. Use RDB snapshots, the append-only file (AOF), or both if Redis holds data you can't rebuild. A pure cache can skip persistence.
Step 6: Connect your app. Point your framework's cache, session, or queue driver at Redis, then watch memory use and hit rates with INFO as traffic grows.

Pick the Right Environment
Which Plan Fits Your Redis Workload?
Choose an Unmanaged VPS if you want full control over Redis versions, memory settings, ACLs, and persistence.
Choose a Managed VPS if you'd rather have our server administrators handle operating system patches, updates, and migration help.
Choose a dedicated server if you need large amounts of RAM for caching or run Redis for several high-traffic apps.

Is Redis available on HostPapa web hosting?
Web hosting plans share server resources and don't run your own Redis service. Choose a HostPapa VPS for dedicated RAM and full control over your Redis instance.
Can I use Redis with WordPress, Laravel, or Django?
Yes. WordPress object cache plugins, Laravel's cache and queue drivers, and Django's cache framework can all connect to Redis running on your VPS.
How do I secure Redis?
Keep it bound to localhost or a private interface, keep protected mode on, require authentication with ACLs or requirepass, and block port 6379 at the firewall.
Will I lose data if Redis restarts?
Not if you turn on persistence. RDB snapshots and the append-only file save data to disk so Redis can reload it after a restart.
Can I run Valkey instead of Redis?
Yes. Valkey is an open source fork of Redis that's compatible with Redis clients. With root access you can install whichever one you prefer.
Does HostPapa offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can set up Redis and test performance risk-free.
