MongoDB Hosting Explained
What Is MongoDB Hosting?
MongoDB is a popular document database that stores data as flexible, JSON-like documents. Developers like it for fast iteration, since collections don't need a fixed schema, and for features like rich queries, indexes, aggregation pipelines, and replica sets.
MongoDB runs as a long-lived mongod service that needs steady memory for its storage engine cache, fast disks, and careful network and authentication settings. Out of the box it listens only on localhost, and it's important to keep it that way unless you deliberately secure remote access.
Standard web hosting doesn't run database services like mongod, so MongoDB belongs on a VPS, where you have root access to install, secure, and tune it.
Why Choose HostPapa
A Reliable Home for Your MongoDB Database
Document databases depend on memory and fast storage. HostPapa VPS plans give MongoDB dedicated resources, NVMe drives, full control of the server, and support around the clock.

How to Set Up MongoDB on a HostPapa VPS
A secure MongoDB deployment takes six steps. The most important ones are turning on authentication and keeping the database off the public internet.
Step 1: Install MongoDB. Connect over SSH and install MongoDB Community Edition from MongoDB's official package repository. Check MongoDB's documentation for the operating system versions it supports.
Step 2: Create an admin user. Connect with mongosh and create an administrative user before you turn on authentication, then create separate users for each app with only the roles they need.
Step 3: Turn on authentication. Set security.authorization: enabled in mongod.conf and restart the service so every connection must log in.
Step 4: Keep network access tight. Leave net.bindIp on 127.0.0.1 if your app runs on the same server. If you need remote access, bind to a private interface and allow only trusted IPs on port 27017.
Step 5: Turn on TLS for remote connections. If clients connect from other servers, configure TLS in mongod.conf so data is encrypted in transit.
Step 6: Schedule backups. Back up regularly with mongodump and store copies off the server, and test restores with mongorestore so you know they work.

Pick the Right Environment
Which Plan Fits Your MongoDB Workload?
Choose an Unmanaged VPS if you want full control over MongoDB versions, configuration, users, and backups.
Choose a Managed VPS if you'd rather have our server administrators handle operating system patches, updates, and migration help.
Choose a dedicated server if your data set is large, your workload is write-heavy, or you need full hardware isolation.

Is MongoDB available on HostPapa web hosting?
No. Web hosting plans are built around MySQL and MariaDB and don't run database services like mongod. Choose a HostPapa VPS to install and run MongoDB.
Can I run a MERN stack on one VPS?
Yes. You can run MongoDB, an Express API on Node.js, and a React frontend on the same VPS, with Nginx serving the frontend and proxying API requests.
How do I connect to MongoDB remotely?
Use MongoDB Compass or mongosh over an SSH tunnel, or bind MongoDB to a private interface, allow your IP in the firewall, and connect with TLS and authentication.
Can I set up a replica set?
Yes. With root access you can configure a replica set across several VPS instances for redundancy and automatic failover.
How should I back up MongoDB?
Run regular backups with mongodump, store copies off the server, and test restores with mongorestore.
Does HostPapa offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. Every plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can set up MongoDB and test performance risk-free.
